Machine Art in Motion
Features a moving lunar disk in front of a rotating fixed solar ring against an astrological star map of the sky during the total solar eclipse.
A study of motion No. 125, from an 1868 work on mechanical movements. The output produces a variable alternating motion and is set against a static background etched with period graphic and a technical description from the book. The handmade gears are put in motion and balance with a sash weight.
#68 explores the 19th century design of square gears, that produce a pulsing variable speed output. Handmade gears cut from steel, layered, and distressed that are put in motion by an electric motor and accented with vintage graphics and hardware, and found metal.
